Trap, Eat, Cook in the FOREST,
Where I live, there are a lot of wild
animals in the woods.
But they hide from humans.
Trappers are required by law to keep
the population in check.
This is an edible mushroom.
We are looking for signs of beavers.
Beavers will damn up waterways.
They use the water for protection
and security.
Most predators can not get them
while they are swimming.
But humans are very smart.
This is an old beaver house.
A goose on a nest.
We need to find the right spot to
trap the beaver.
Bad weather is moving in.
We need to wait for this one out.
We decide to set up on the beaver
damn.
These traps work like big mouse
traps.
They clamp shut on the beaver's body.
It is a quick and instant death.
Breaking the damn will alert the
beaver to come to repair it.
They don't like the sound of running
water.
They will pack mud and sticks to
stop the water from leaking out.
A trail camera will catch any
activity.
An ethical catch.
Now we get to eat.
A big leach.
Before the meat spoils, we need to
cook it.
These are common loons.
A rainbow trout!
Make some fish soup for a quick
meal.
Beaver meat is fantastic.
We will slow roast it to keep it
from spoiling and keep the flies off.
Cutting to help it cook.
Washing the pelt.
We have been eating pieces.
It is very delicious.
The rest is stewed, it will keep
better this way.
