good morning
it's April 2nd Georgia opener they pushed into April this year which
is necessary if it helps turkeys can't be a bad thing
um I'm heading over here to a little east-central spot so let's do it
you ready I am you have plenty of coffee don't need it
I'm going to miss sorry hmm ain't gonna miss are you don't plan
on it all right you found a few birds over here got a few
all right we'll see what we can see what my caller can do this
morning see if we can muster up yeah all right well howdy-do
me and Saxon rolling out here it's the second of April
it's a little chilly in it 43 degrees a little nippy she got some
nelly going on there hopefully, we'll be shaking some tail
feathers diddy is that what that is hmm see what else
I got pop pits from The 2010s
right here all right show me um what's up here
all right get up the way the gobblers like to hang
upright here but uh this seems to be the ticket all right
you don't want to just start there in the back
we're going to start on this road turn off your tempo lines
just that cat come on let's see if some man's telling
the truth satellite what does it like a cat-dog legs body
head tail birds like to reach in there last year
it looks like a pointer like an Irish setter
good morning folks, it's officially opening day
2022 Georgia home state private land opener
I think we've already covered that
topic
but uh we're what we're doing is we're walking to the
very very back of this place because we want to start
from the very very back the reason being
is because it's a lot easier to hunt back when you've
already can make swings and moves easier
if you've got a lot more land to work with
more real estate to attack from that's kind
of what we're doing probably stop we get to a high point
here we'll listen but we want to be
in
the middle of everything
all right we made it down here
another
400,300 yards
we're just trying to figure out a
good
setup on these turkeys I think
they're
probably a solid 400 in there
but I don't know but it's the same turkeys
that was up towards the gasoline
okay
all right let's do two different
groups
just turn three
I don't know which one you want to
go to
I think we go to the back and then
hit
these on the way out
you know what I'm saying
I said we'll start at the back
because I mean what do you think
those
turkeys this is your place I've
never
been here
where are those turkeys they've been
a
good spot last year they never
reached
it's anywhere up there I just always
roosted here
let these turkeys melt around we'll
strike these later let's go to the
back
yeah
it's been a little harem scarf I
think
both me and Saxon
heard so many turkeys we didn't know
which one to go to
so what we're going to do is kind of
slow play it
we'll come up to a high point where
we
can hear all these turkeys and we're
just going to sit
and just listen until something
with a little bit more
regularity
yeah
so here we are
kind of what you're seeing here is
a gas line a food plot and a food
plot
400 to the gas line 300 to that food
plot 400 to this one
we're just sitting here on this high point
and uh we're kind of just like waiting on our
tan our chance at the dance floor because right now
uh
hens have got the dance floor pretty occupied
and whenever that joker starts
gobbling
in one of those food plots
those high points on the gas line
that's when it's our time to
make tracks
but if we just go barreling out
through
here
we're just gonna spook a bunch of
turkeys
just gonna let it develop slowly
and just be patient
all right so we've been sitting here
slow playing turkey just
turkey just cop
we're gonna wait
see if he hits it again
he needs to hit it a few more times for a week
get up listen to me listen to me
we need to get right on this rise
right
here he's in that hardwood dream
just follow me get ready get your gun up
hey look at me you need to face this way
so you can swing because your barrel is
pointing to the left your arrow needs to
be pointing straight down that road,
I'm scared to look at me
turn on the tree so you can face
right
down the road
look
you know what you mean yeah
go ahead quick
just hold it right there I just
can't
shoot through this little branch
that's
okay you can shoot through that
the sun
uh
do not move
slowly here he comes
did you really see him he saw you
you're
moving you didn't see him yes
I'm not throwing Saxon under the bus
we had a little miscue
we sat down to this turkey
he was
The last time he gobbled he was
300. hit the wing bone in that
direction
behind us
like one hiccup series of yelps
and no sooner than we had got
settled in
this little clump
I hear a spitting drum-like
very audible
and I knew he was close
he was right behind this cedar
he's right behind the cedar
you can see you saw it on the
video I don't know how the joker
didn't
bolt immediately when you moved
because it was a lot of movement
right
there but Saxon
didn't it was a miscommunication
he didn't realize the turkey was
right
on top of us so he moved his gun
way too fast
turkey just stood there looking
and then all of a sudden was like oh
crap I need to get out of here
so we're gonna let the turkey calm
down
and we probably go check some other
stuff and see if we can raise him
back
up
all right
I just called
the turkey
made a big loop around us
he's out here on this power line
he's swinging around us he just
gobbled
over here
we did a 180 on the tree
try to call them out off this road
I'm not
all
right it's that hand coming out
this is a different gobbler
that had hens off the limb
and
he sent out his little centurion
to check things out
there's a little lookout
she popped out of the road
y'all saw that whole debacle
she clucked a little bit
maybe a half putt
a time or two and he gobbled
we're gonna I'm making a huge loop
in
here
we were way back over there
we are way back over there
making a big loop all the way back
around this gas line
I beat the turkeys to the castle
all right
we were set up on the cross here
right there
went all the way back around we made
a
big loop
we're swinging in on the backside
where this turkey's at
well that was a bust
that's where we were set up
on the edge of that road, we made a
huge
loop all the way around
I thought the turkeys would be on
the
power line
the gas line they weren't so we're gonna
walk our whole way back and just
hit this whole box call
different sounds if we can raise
